What is global administrator credentials with impersonation rights? Why do I need it?

You need to have appropriate impersonation rights to perform Office 365 exchange mailbox backup. Click here to know more on impersonation rights.

How can I perform Office 365 exchange mailbox backup?

To perform Office 365 exchange mailbox backup,

  1. Login to the IBackup application and click the 'Server Backup' tab.
  2. Click 'Backup' under 'Office 365' section. Enter global administrator credentials with appropriate impersonation rights. View steps to grant impersonation rights.
  3. From the list that appears, select the mailbox(es) that you wish to backup.
  4. Specify the temporary local backup path and click 'Schedule Now'.
    Note: Make sure that the selected temporary location on your computer has adequate space to store the contents of individual mailboxes. You cannot select a temporary location on the remote location.
  5. The 'Schedule backup' screen appears. You can schedule the backup for any future day and time or perform an immediate backup of the selected mailboxes.

What are the system requirements to perform Office 365 exchange mailbox backup?

The system requirements to perform Office 365 exchange mailbox backup are as follows:

  • Windows 7 Service Pack 1, Windows 8, Windows 8.1, Windows Server 2008 R2, Windows Server 2008, Windows 10, Windows Server 2012 R2, Windows Server 2012, Windows Server 2016
  • 2 GB RAM
  • Sufficient hard disk space to store the mailbox backup files (.ofl) for temporary backup and restore

Is incremental backup of Office 365 exchange mailbox supported by IBackup?

To perform Office 365 exchange mailbox restore,

  1. Login to the IBackup application and click the 'Server Backup' tab.

  4. Select the mailbox from the list displayed and browse the backed up mailbox from 'IBOffice365backup' folder.
  5. Click 'Restore' to restore your backup data to online exchange mailbox.

You can also restore the backed up data locally.

How can I assign global administrator with discovery management rights?

You can assign discovery management role group to global administrator,

  1. Login to https://portal.office.com as an Admin.
  2. Click and go to 'Admin'. Click 'Admin centers' on the left navigation bar.
  3. Click 'Exchange'. In the 'Exchange admin center' page, click 'Admin Roles' under 'Permissions'.
  4. In the list, select 'Discovery Management' and then click .
  5. Under 'Members' in the 'Role Group' window . Select the users, click 'add', and then click 'OK'.
  6. Click 'Save'.

Does IBackup provide support to backup the Office 365 mailbox Journal folder?

No, IBackup does not support backup of Office 365 mailbox Journal folder.


Can I restore the backed up recurring tasks from my IBackup account?

No, it is not possible to restore any recurring task from your IBackup account.
